Oh Chunky Red Infinity Scarf...

It was warm yesterday. It's not today. And it was hot on Sunday. Like bust out the tank tops and short shorts hot. Not that I even wear short shorts so I busted out a dress but then realized I haven't shaved. Ewe...sorry. So out came the tank and jeans.

But this post is not about a dress or jeans or unshaven legs. It's about my chunky, red, infinity scarf. It's more of a brick red than a bright red like the photo below. Winter is pretty much over and it never really got started here in L.A. There was maybe a solid week's worth of really cold weather this winter but nothing to to make you punt on a thick coat AND a scarf. But I'm obsessed with this one so much i wore it like 3 times a week. I think it's due for a wash.

This picture is not from today either. It's from a perfect winter/not really winter day last week. Where it was sunny/warm enough to not wear a jacket but windy/cool enough that you need a little something to keep you warm. It's amazing how one little item like a scarf can keep you warm.

Why yes that is a sparkly, sequined shirt peaking out of my denim shirt.

As we transition into Spring, I will miss you red scarf. Until fall, when I pull you from my drawer and wrinkle my nose at your funky smell and wash you immediately and finally wear you again. Or until tomorrow when it will be 60 and for me, that's pretty much freezing.

How Junk Mail Leads to Shopping

I have a mail hoarding problem. I receive mail decide to open or not open and regardless of such choice I then start creating a pile. This little pile then grows and grows and one day when I finally cant' take it anymore I go through it. Between moving and accumulating and sorting stuff around, my pile was more like a giant heap of junk that was seriously becoming some kind of hazard.

The fun part is that in between all that junk I find treasures. You know, things like, money in the forms of checks (two checks, totaling $75), coupons (lots of coupons!), notices for free xm satellite radio for the next 3 months (not the first time this happens), a medical bill 90 days late (not really a treasure and will be paid with said checks mentioned above so I break even), new insurance card (my current card is only 2 months expired),  store gift cards, movie ticket vouchers, $5 in music downloads, new credit cards (just new updates for the ones I already have), membership cards, expired coupons (sad face), and gap cash cards that expired the next day.

So to the mall the next day with $30 to the Gap. Determined not to spend more than those $30 my options were seriously limited. Please excuse the awkward dressing room shots...what can I say, I think I like awkward photos.

Seriously, forgive the messy hair...this is what you end up looking when you wake up late. and then try on a bunch of clothes.

Not much luck at the Gap but I did take that grey shirt...sweater?... and only paid a $1 for it. And right after the cashier said the words "final sale" I immediately thought "Why didn't I go to Old Navy first?" I still had $10 left so of I went to Old Navy. I should have gone to Old Navy first.

Now I have a dilemma...the dressing room understood.

So in order to stick to my budget I went home with the orange stripe shirt for $8 (score!) and some jewelry. The brown bracelets and one pink puffy ring that is so not me but it was so dam cute that it won.

So that my friends, is how junk mail leads to shopping. Check your mail, hopefully you find some money and not some bills.

Heels and Leopards

I like wearing high heels just as much as the next vertically challenged girl but sometimes I'm over the platform and the 5+ inches. Sometimes I just want a smaller heel. Something in between the flat and the platform. Today I got my preview notice of one of the February ShoeMint options, meet Rosemary:

No Platform. Skinny Heel. Simple design.  Just what I was looking for. Especially since a little while ago I was strolling a Steve Madden store for no reason other than it happened to be part of the promenade I was currently strolling and in there I found some black pumps that I almost considered buying but figured that I would wait and hope that ShoeMint would have a similar one. (Try saying all that in one breath, love those run on sentences!) Although they are similar in price the patent leather is a plus in my book so ShoeMint it is!  Plus I'm kinda digging the snake skin one too. Which is really strange because I don't wear or like animal prints. I did buy a leopard coat once while working at Express like 15 years ago and I thought I looked like a million bucks but now that I look at that coat I realize how cheap it looks. All that to say, this morning I found a leopard print scarf that my cousin gave me and wrapped it around my neck as I ran out the door. Between the aviators the black shirt and the leopard scarf, I felt like today's lipstick should be red. So there you go, leopard print = red lipstick.

And if your hair happens to fall on our lips, chances are you will have lipstick stain on your face. In my case they happen to land on my cheek which I then rubbed at and had instant blush.

School Girl Fuchia

All the schools I attended did not require uniforms. If they had, I would have sooooo been in the 1% that would've been happy about it. Maybe that's why my outfits sometimes look like I'm on my way to study hall at St. Overpriced Fancy Pants Academy instead of on my way to work.
I figured throwing on a bright bag would help this outfit punch it up a notch on the cool meeter, only to bring it back down by wearing my glasses. So in comes the bright pink lipstick. You are supposed to match your lipstick to your purse right? Isn't that the rule? I think so.
Oh, and you can finally see the hair cut. Not the one that turned out bad but the "fix" to the bad. I'm still traumatized a bit.

Scarf Swap

A few weeks ago while perusing through some blogs I came upon a Scarf Swap Invitation. Being that I am one that never turns down a scarf swapping invitation I signed up. So how does a scarf swap work? I will send a complete stranger a scarf and she will send me one. We are then supposed to blog about it. Soooo here we go!

I was paired up with Miss Jessica from Toujours C'est La Vie, lovely gal over in Arizona. She sent me a very pretty brown and orange pattern scarf to play with. It was a little too short to really wear like a scarf around my neck but that's a good thing because it's way too hot to have something around my neck right now. My first thought then was to put it in my hair. However, there is a reason I don't wear scarfs in my hair. They always fall off. Every time! Even if I try to pin it. It manages to finds a way down. The only time they do stay on is when I tie them at the top.

But then I just end up looking like Aunt Jemima...err Tupac. Tupac is cooler right?

I wasn't sure how Tupac looked in this photo so I posed with my best "I'm a bad a$$ gangsta" look. Yes, I'm aware it's a pretty pathetic attempt.

But maybe this little guy would stay so I tried this headband look...

but a few hours later it fell and I was wearing it like a necklace.
Taking a self-portrait with an iPhone while sitting at your desk and while trying to not get caught by coworkers takes more work than you think! I then decided I didn't want to deal with it all day so I tuned it into a cuff and wore it like so the rest of the day...

I went to lunch with the BFFs and had them take the following fashionable outfit photos...

However the only ones I liked were the ones where I look really awkward. ...

Not sure what was going on here, but doesn't This Olive Garden have a pretty little setting with the waterfall and all...

The wind was not helping either... I didn't flash anyone but I think Claudia did.

Finally I just gave up and requested my camera back.

So there you have it folks... a good ol' scarf swap. I also noticed a correlation with my hair and the scarf. Every time I changed the scarf, I changed my hair style... bet ya didn't know how creative I could get with my hair AND a scarf... I wore em 4 ways in one day :) Those are skills one is born with I suppose.

First Day of Summer

So last post I whined about how there was no sun and how sad my floppy hat felt about not being used. Yes, I just realized how crazy that sounds so pretend you didn't read that.... Then this weekend Mother Nature heard my plea. We had some sun!! Unfortunately there was no fun in the sun enjoyment for me, busy gal. Maybe because of this or maybe because that's just how the weather is...maybe, come Monday morning it was back to gloominess.

So today, the official first day of Summer I though for sure there would be some sun. I woke up opened my blinds and...No. No sun. Just ugly grey and chilly wind. I went to work angry in about 4 layers of clothes. I may have been feeling dramatic and overdressed, maybe. But around lunch time I went outside and what do you know...SUN. Bright, beautiful, warm sun.

Even my necklace was not in a happy mood at first...but that was fixed.

Alright, too much blogging about the weather...

June Gloom Go Away!

It's the middle of June and the Sun has yet to make an appearance this month. It's really starting to get to me. I want it to be summer already, hot summer. Beach worthy summer. Sun dress worthy summer. Summer nights are some of my favorite things in life. The shade of night with the heat from the day... not having to wear sweater or jackets or boots. I live in Southern California for crying out loud! This weather has me in a funky mood. Until I saw these photos...
Back in Sunny May (go figure) I was taking some random photos in my front yard when my mom decided that I "looked pretty" and wanted to take photos with me.  Or what I like to call "give me something to put on my Facebook." Yes, my Mother is a Facebook user. A very, very avid Facebook user...

I wasn't feeling photo ready and my hair was a mess so I reached in and grabbed this hat I bought the previous day. It looks a little silly here but I love this hat. I'm just waiting for the sun to come back so I can give it a proper wear.

Not really sure what was so funny in this photo but I really like it. It makes me laugh. I think she was trying to fix my hair and I was trying to let her know not to push her luck, she already had managed to get me to agree to this impromptu session.  Then my Dad wanted to take more photos, he was feeling cool behind the lens...

Nice camera work Dad. Well, these last two were courtesy of photo editing by yours truly.  I can't wait for some sun... One a side note, I am obsessed with these Seychelles Wedges they are super comfy and also the pattern on the dress. I really need some vitamin D. No, seriously like I am vitamin D deficient right now. So dear June Gloom go away, and Sun come out please. Pretty please?

Color Me Spring

Like I've super overstated I'm not trendy. I'm comfy! But working for a cosmetic company i learned a little something about color casting, and color trends. Oh yes, I feel super cool. I know what is "hot" and "in" right now. Not that I'm actually incorporating said trends. The problem is I'm such a sale shopper that what I buy probably was last seasons I suppose. Oh well!

But for you all that are curious and a lot more fashion conscious than I, here is the Spring report:

First you begin with the Pantone Fashion Color Report for Spring 2011. Apparently, this is where anything that has to be color updated take their cues from, fashion designers, interior decorators, cosmetic developers ect.
Here are the colors:

Well now that you know what colors to wear, how do you wear them?? I have no idea. But I have noticed that Honeysuckle in every single lipstick/ lip gloss color for every brand. Also the Lavender and Silver in nail polish and the Blues and oranges in dresses.

There are also trends in what to wear, here are my favorites for spring!

It's about the whites:
D&G Spring 2011
  and florals:
               D&G Spring 2011                           JOHN GALLIANO Spring 2011
and stripes:

PRADA Spring 2011                      VIVIENNE WESTWOOD Spring 2011

and that 70s style:
DEREK LAM Spring 2011                MARC JACOBS Spring 2011

You get the picture :) I have it on good authority that you will also look super fly if you are sporting some rocker inspired wear (think studs an spikes), wearing fruits prints (seriously, like a jacket with lemons on it), Knitwear (bring out those crochet needles, people!), sheer fabrics (please wear a bra or a cami underneath!), and denim (think lean, clean lines, not 80s revival).

So there you go my friends, a little fashion advice. Hey, you wear what I say not what I wear, OK! I feel like Andy from the Devil Wears Prada, you know the part when she finally can dress all cool an fashionable, take that Miranda Priestly!!

Sunny May Day

Mayday! My blog has been screaming this for a while now. I haven't had the urge to blog. Seriously, not even to publish stuff I've already written. I lost my mojo. my blog mojo. :( Bu I promise I'm working on it!!

On a happier note how  beautiful was the weather today???!!! It was snowing in Minnesota. SNOWING, people!!!!!!Oh and  how cute is my dress? I know I sound totally into myself, but it's new and it was on sale. My favorite type of dress! So is the sweater...I may or may not have gone a recent shopping spree.

I brought up Minnesota because I was there this past weekend. If you still don't know why i go, it's for work. But I've yet to share what exactly I do there. Well, right in the heart of Eden Prairie, Minnesota is the Shop NBC Network studios. SNBC is an at home shopping network. My company sells cosmetics products on air and we do this about once a month. I fly in at least a full 24 hours before the show and we start preparing. I book the models, I prep the items that will be used by the models and by my boss on air. Then we have the actual show day. These shows are live, so I'm there acting like a production assistant around the clock for like 27 hours. I make sure everything from our end is running smoothly, plus I prepare the models before they on air, like put on make-up or prep them with our products. The shows are live so it's stressful, tiring and your adrenaline is pumping, plus i learned a whole new definition of the word multitasking! I get some breaks in between hours so I either try to sleep or eat (bad, bland food). Although sleeping is not possible for some reason. Could be the super uncomfortable pillows or the adrenaline, who knows. The following day I fly home. It takes me an extra day to recover.

Today would have been my recovery... and normally I would not go back to the office. But I just had so much work to do I had to come in. Standing on top of this wall should not have been something I do on a normal day, let alone on a day I'm tired. See how gracefully I stepped off...good thing I was holding on to that fence.

I didn't mind coming in today though. That means I have a free day I can take off at another time! Oh yeah, high fives! The photos were taken by my co-worker, I explained they were for my blog but she just looked at me like I was a crazy person and clicked away.

Dress Remix

That's right, Reeeemix! Said in my best Missy Elliot impersonation.

In my last Over the Weekend post I mentioned that I bought a pretty new dress at Forever 21. I love that store. I'm going to be 50 and still shop there.  It's easy to shop there since I don't really have a style it's more of  an "I dress comfortably and there are things that just have a Marisol look" type of style. Whatever that look is.

So back to the dress...I wore it 4 times, 4 different ways. In 3 days. Yeah, I got skills like that. It's a simple print dress with an elastic band tightly at the center, loose-fitting everywhere else and a little short in the back, but , nothing a pair of shorts can't fix.

 First up: Friends Birthday Party.

Did you notice something? It's my purple heels from this Shoedazzle post. I was soooooo excited to finally wear these shoes. They have just been sitting in my closet for ever! The purple in the dress matches the dress perfectly. That post also reminded me that in fact there is a name for my "style" it's cosmopolitan, modern and spirited. Ha! That still make me laugh.

The party was at night so I threw on this warm, military style sweater and cinched it with a brown belt, and a simple creamy white, rose pendant necklace.

Second I wore it to my sisters backyard birthday party the following afternoon.
I had to dress quickly as people showed up early and this dress was laying on my bed from the day before. Paired with a camel colored belt and skin-tone strappy sandals I was ready to play hostess.
I just love all the colors!

Intermediately following the birthday party was the SAP party so I changed to something a little more dressy and warm.

Added some black tights, black wedges, black necklace and a Navy blue blazer. I asked for theses wedges on my Christmas list, in a Taupe. I received them in black too. I think I have worn the black more than taupe. Good call, little sister!
Little Jazmin liked my blazer so much she insisted on trying on. If a toddler likes what your wearing you definitely look one of two ways... Super cool or like a Nick Junior character. I'm thinking super cool. I am too....Although, if I were a cartoon character that would be pretty cool too.

Finally, the fourth outfit: The following Monday morning, I was running late for work, as usual, so again I just grabbed the dress and here you go:

I paired it with a white tee underneath, a jean jacket and my favorite boots!

Now this may not seem like a proper office outfit, short dress and all, but I work for a cosmetic company and honestly they could care less what I wear. I have worn everything from business formal for a meetings to my yoga pants and a hoodie. Plus, the white tee is for "cleavage" control....hahahaha....OK, ok, enough laughing, and the shorts are for booty control.

I love these boots!

This last little photo session was all laughs. I had to recreate my work outfit this weekend so I could put it on here. Do you know how hard it is to keep a straight face when trying to look aloof like I don't care that I know how cool I look? The fact that my cousin, Linda, was visits and making me laugh plus my sister saying things like, "Love the camera, now hate it, hate the camera." That's me hating the camera in the middle, and then hiding my my face in shame...

So there you go. I didn't mean to but that's  how I remixed my dress into 4 outfits for 4 different occasions in 3 days. Mental note: wash dress. I feel a little like a fashion blogger. The heck is a fashion blogger? That's what I said. But there are thousands of fashion blogger out there. I though it was cool an all but not my thing, some outfits were just plane odd to me. Until I came across Kendi Everyday. I would steal her closet if it weren't against the law and if I were a mean person. I think she might have inspired me in my remix. She's the 50 Cent to my Missy Elliot.

I was so proud of myself, getting all creative with my outfits in this one dress. Until my more fashionable little sisters says, "Four? that's it? I can think of at least 30 more outfits." Ouch...hmm...post idea coming up. Till next time, I leave you with a REEEEEEMIIIIX!!!!

Wow, never really noticed how dirty this song is...sorry about that.
